This Mitchell County community was named by the Greenlee Family who brought their livestock into the area from the lands below Gillespie Gap to graze in the lush, grassy pastureland alongside the creek. Thus the name “Grassy” Creek.

The George Greenlee family poses after a successful hunting expedition. The Greenlees were one of the first families to settle in the region. They named the area Grassy Creek from the lush meadows where their livestock grazed.
