The Tension Increases

The Corona Times – March 26, 2020

So the first full day of Mitchell County being listed as a county where a person tests positive for COVID-19 is today. Of course, this person’s privacy has been protected by local health and governmental officials, but I’m sure the knowledge that it is here is changing the whole mindset in the county.

We have posted more photos below of empty shelves at Walmart and Ingles in Spruce Pine. Shortages and hoarding are continuing even with the best efforts of shippers working to keep things stocked. Thanks go out to those workers at all our stores who are trying to stay ahead of demand and for being in a risky situation since so many people are going to the stores.

This is a shorter post for today. We have some guest posts coming that will share more perspectives of the effects of COVID-19 and the lock down. We hope you will join in sharing your stories, photos, and movies.

We Want to Tell Your Story

About the Numbers

You will note a series of numbers contained in the blog. They document the spread of virus through confirmed cases by the federal Centers for Disease Control and by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. These are the official totals provided by state and local government at the date of the post and do not include estimates or cases not confirmed by these agencies. This is our effort to provide an accurate gauge of confirmed virus spread as it continues during the pandemic.
