A Way to Help Others

The Corona Times – April 25, 2020

The Spruce Pine Rotary Club placed the following ad in the Mitchell News-Journal to raise awareness of needs in our community during the COVID-19 pandemic and to suggest a way for residents to help.

Rotary Club of Spruce Pine LogoIf you are receiving the $1,200 from the federal government but are fortunate not to have suffered any financial income loss during these trying times, consider:

This is your opportunity to put federal tax dollars to good use in your community without affecting your usual income. Retirees and people who have kept their jobs and pay are in this category. We sometimes complain about how and where our taxes are spent. Now you are in charge.

You could give directly to a person, group of people, organization, church or business. There are many opportunities to help the community. The need to keep us going and get back to normal is so important. If you would prefer not to give directly, but still want to do good with this money, the Spruce Pine Rotary Foundation will be distributing funds to those in need in Mitchell County. Their address is P.O. Box 22 Spruce Pine, NC 28777. One-hundred percent of your donation will go out with no administrative costs. The Rotarians will work on this voluntarily.

Hardworking people who are usually givers are in need through no fault of their own. A little help from you now can get them on the road to recovery.

About the Numbers

You will note a series of numbers contained in the blog. They document the spread of virus through confirmed cases by the federal Centers for Disease Control and by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. These are the official totals provided by state and local government at the date of the post and do not include estimates or cases not confirmed by these agencies. This is our effort to provide an accurate gauge of confirmed virus spread as it continues during the pandemic.
