The Class of 2020 Returns – May 19, 2020

The Corona Times – June 1, 2020

Mitchell High’s Class of 2020 is having a unique ending to their public school career. COVID-19 has forced them to finish classes online, and they have missed out on signing senior yearbooks in person, the senior trip, and other special events that take place at the end of each school year.

However, they are graduating with a ceremony on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. in a “drive-in” event at Lavonia Crest in Bakersville, NC. We will be documenting the ceremony and will post in a future listing here.

The process to get to graduation began on May 19 when the senior class returned to Mitchell High to pick up their yearbooks, caps and gowns, have their graduation photos taken, and say their goodbyes to the high school. Jacob Gortney grabbed some pictures of the set-up that day and we share them in today’s gallery. Thanks again to Jacob for his help!

We welcome anyone to send us photos and stories to include in our posts here. Details on how to participate are below.

About the Numbers

You will note a series of numbers contained in the blog. They document the spread of virus through confirmed cases by the federal Centers for Disease Control and by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. These are the official totals provided by state and local government at the date of the post and do not include estimates or cases not confirmed by these agencies. This is our effort to provide an accurate gauge of confirmed virus spread as it continues during the pandemic.
