About The Mitchell County Historical Society
Nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, the Mitchell County Historical Society is proudly located in the Historic Mitchell County Courthouse in Bakersville, North Carolina.
Our mission as a nonpolitical, non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation is to collect, preserve, protect, and publicly display material that is historically significant to Mitchell County. The society also strives to make the citizens of Mitchell County aware of their heritage.
How You Can Help
Be A Member
Your membership helps MCHS provide free programs, schedule special events, and offer services to our county. Plus, you get special perks as a member. More info on that coming soon!
Be A Volunteer
In addition to members, MCHS always needs volunteers to work at our special programs and events and the annual Apple Butter Festival. We are working on our schedule for 2020 and opportunities to volunteer will be posted shortly.
Join The Board
MCHS is seeking individuals who are interested in a greater role with our organization. Board members volunteer at events, work on projects, and are involved in setting priorities for the organization. You do NOT have to have a background in history to be a board member. Interested?
