Map of Mitchell County with the community of Bandana highlighted.
When the Clinchfield Railroad came into this western Mitchell County community on the Toe River, it was decided to locate a station near a certain point after the train was making several stops a day in that area. A brakeman marked the point by hanging his bandana on a laurel bush. Thus the station and the community became known as “Bandana”. The elevation of Bandana is 2,331 feet.
