Sam Cresawn – The Snake Man of Turkey Cove

Just “off the mountain” below Little Switzerland, in Turkey Cove, lived “the snake man” – Sam Cresawn. In the early part of the twentieth century, Mr. Cresawn concocted and sold a cure-all for tuberculosis made of rattlesnakes that he caught and cut up, mixing the parts with whiskey. He was a hermit who wouldn’t use paper money, preferring a small stash of gold. He lived off of black walnuts in a small cabin pictured below, 9 miles from Little Switzerland on the Marion Road.
